Among all the characters in Lord of the Flies, I believe I can relate to two characters. I feel like I am a combination of Ralph and Simon. I can relate myself to Ralph because we both take the role of leadership when there isn't one. In Chapter 1, Ralph makes himself some sort of leader when he realizes that there are no adults on the island. During group projects in school, I usually become the responsible one of the group. I try to make sure everyone does their job and I try to help them out when they need it. This is like what Ralph does when he assigns jobs for the other boys to do.
My relationship to Simon ties in with some of the reasons why I connect to Ralph. For example, I tend to care for other people a lot more than I should. I try to work hard to help my friends and peers. I would like to think that I am kind, especially when dealing with smaller children. This relates to the actions of Simon, like the way he treats the young boys with care and kindness.

~ LOTF Journal #5 ~
This morning my siblings and I had a dentist appointment. My brother and I went first because my mom and my sister had to go to Savemart to get some groceries. I was taken in to have my teeth cleaned within the first five minutes of arriving in the lobby. The woman who was assigned to clean my teeth was very nice and we talked about spring break and about school.
After my teeth were cleaned, I went to go see how my younger sister was doing. She was int he room right next to mine. When I walked in, I was surprised to see that my sister was very calm. She just sat in her chair without any protest as the dentist poked at her teeth. I was proud that she was very mature about the whole situation. Overall, it was a pretty good day that ended with a good badminton practice.

~ LOTF Journal #4 ~
Today was the day when I finally got contacts. My brother had to get new glasses and I was to be fitted for contact lenses. I was pretty nervous about getting contacts. I was worried that it would be hard to put them in and take them out. However, I knew it would beneficial to me because it would mean I wouldn't have to wear glasses when playing badminton. It would make it easier for me. Once my optometrist gave me the contact lenses and taught me how to use them, I figured out that it wasn't that bad.
For the rest of the day, I had to get used to my new contacts. My eyes were kind of out of focus for a few hours, but it wasn't too bad. I also went to my dad's work place after getting my contacts. I told him about the optometrist and about the contacts. We then went home and bought In-N-Out for dinner.

~ LOTF Journal #3 ~
My plan for today was to stay at home and babysit my brother and my baby sister. We each spent our time doing different activities. My brother spent the whole day playing his new videogame and my sister spent her time playing on her Nintendo DS. I spent my time on my phone and watching TV. Honestly, I enjoy spending time with my siblings because I never know what to expect with them. They are full of surprises.
During practice today, I felt like I worked really hard. I improved on certain concepts that my coach wanted me to work on. It was also a fun practice because I got to play a few games. When I came home, I was welcomed with a great dinner consisting of rice and chicken. My mom is a great cook. Hopefully tomorrow there will still be leftovers.

~ LOTF Journal #2 ~
Today, I stayed at home with my sister. She woke me up due to her singing in the hallways. My mom had planned for me to babysit her at home while she took my brother to get a videogame. THey left around 9:30 AM. Afterwards, my sister and I snuggled up on the couch and she watched her shows on Disney Junior.
When my mother came home she told me that my siblings and I had a dentist appointment on Friday. I was surprised to find out that my sister was going to get her teeth cleaned. It would be her first time sitting in the dentist's chair. Hopefully she wouldn't be nervous. I ended the day with a two and a half hour practice for badminton.

~ LOTF Journal #1 ~
Today I woke up feeling refreshed. My plans for today included going to work with my mom. She was planning to have my brother and I file papers at her office. I never enjoyed this task because it was time consuming and boring. Once I got there and started the filing, I realized it wasn't as bad as usual. I think it was because my brother was there to help me.
After a few hours, my mom took my brother, sister, and I to a milk tea place in Fremont called Gong Cha. I really enjoy the milk tea there because you can control the amount of sweetness you want in your drink. The pearls they make are also really good. They are really soft, but still chewy. Then, all of us went home and I had to change to get ready for practice. Practice was very enjoyable and I'm glad that I went. Exercising and moving around after eating a ton of food made me feel better.

~ Gestures vs. Thoughts ~
When an actor uses gestures during their performance, it is like an extension of their thoughts. Using gestures helps the actor portray his/her thoughts in a physical manner. Actors incorporate gestures into their performances during their dialogues. When they speak, they use the gestures to emphasize what they are saying to add to what is going on during the scene. I think the actor's hand is not very conscious when they are performing because the gestures come naturally to them when they perform. The actor is in character. They think and act as if they were that character. Therefore, when they act, the natural gestures that might be used everyday come to them. Of course, sometimes the gestures are exaggerated, but it adds to the scene and drama.
